Welcome Fellow Traveler...

I adore travel. I love the planning, the anticipation, the marvel of being able to wake up on one side of the country and lay my head down on the other...all in the same day. I love all the tidbits of information that I learn about the places I visit, the people that live there, past and present, the food, the buildings. And I love being lulled to sleep in the luxury of a fabulous hotel or a cozy bed and breakfast. One thing I've noticed is that traveling through life is much the same. My life is filled with plans, anticipation and marvel. I'm surrounded by friends (old, new and yet-to-be-made) from which I learn all kinds of new things, and as I travel through this life toward my eternal home, I have the hope of a fabulous mansion waiting for me that is beyond anything I could ever imagine. Join me as I travel the road home and check in from time to time to discover what I'm learning on my journey. Perhaps we can help each other along the way.

36 Years - A Challenge for Change

There was a lot going on in 1973. OPEC doubled the price of oil. The Watergate tapes were released that year. To the great relief of the United States, the Vietnam war finally ended. But there was also a law decided by the Supreme Court in 1973, that has affected far more lives than even the Vietnam war - a mind-blowing 50,000,000+ U.S. lives to Vietnam's 58,000. 36 years ago today, Roe v. Wade was passed into law, legalizing 1st and 2nd trimester abortions.

I realize that I just posted a few days ago about the Sanctity of Human Life week. Before I go any further, I want to make something perfectly clear: If you are reading this post, or read my earlier post, and you have an abortion in your past, please know that my words and heart hold NO CONDEMNATION toward you! I was just chatting with a friend who recently came forth with this "secret" and she told me that in years past, Sanctity of Life week has been terribly hard for her - not just because of the focus on abortion, but because she felt that the pro-lifers were judging those, like her, who had made this decision and still carried its pain and consequences. I speak for myself, and those that I know who are working on the pro-life front lines, when I say that we hold you and your heart in the highest esteem.

This 36th anniversary finds me thinking a lot about all those lives lost and the ones left permanently altered by the decision for abortion. With our current presidential administration, I don't see things changing anytime soon, UNLESS God's people band together in prayer toward positive change. With that thought in mind, I'd like to make a proposal to all bloggers of like mind:

CHANGING ONE HEART FOR MANY
A commitment to pray for God to change the heart of President Obama on the subject of abortion.

To become involved:

By commenting on this post, you are committing to pray EVERY MONDAY for a pledged period of time: 3 mos., 6 mos., 9 mos., or 1 year. You'll note your pledged time in your comment. Shooting to pray around the same time each week allows for very intentional, focused prayer in a corporate "e-fashion", and will bathe that entire day in it.

I will post a current news piece and relevant scripture every Sunday that we can be praying together the next day.

To further the movement, you can post about it and link back to this post. You can also grab the button on my sidebar to post on your own blog.

We'll revisit this in a year and see what God has done!

I thank you in advance for your participation. This is not an easy topic (often drawing ridicule) but it's such an important one! 36 years spans a lot of days and a lot of lives. It's only through the prayers of God's people that a change will come. If even one more life is saved, imagine the potential:

If you are just joining the team (be sure and comment on this post with your commitment), please go here for the most current prayer focus.

this is a great idea! Since June we have been setting aside Mondays to pray for our nation...abortion and praying for life is a huge part of our prayers. We are also praying for the hearts and minds of the American People to be turned toward God. While we do pray for Obama- we believe that if the hearts and minds of the people are not changed then they are likely to choose another leader who justifies their actions or non action. I am new to being an "activist" for life...I will be providing each of the women at our next women of the bible discussion series...with a 3 letters (2 senators, 1 rep) asking them to oppose FOCA and will also ask them to participate in some way for the 40 days for life...setting aside a time each day for prayer, fast if they can...prayerwalk the neighborhood schools praying that the youth will stand for life. Also am asking that they would pray that the Lord will open doors for a crises pregnancy center in our neighborhood...I will be praying along with you and add your site to my resource list to hand out to are group. The scripture for this week speaks loud and clear and I want to find a way to present it to our group(some of us are overly sensitive @ times) God Bless you and all the work you are doing to stand for life.

This is a wonderful thing to commit to. I want to commit for 3 months. It is so like the Lord to prepare my heart before I even knew about this prayer post. This morning in my prayer time, I was reading and praying Psalm 10. Verse 8 sort of jumped out at me, and the Holy Spirit used it in application to abortion. It says in the KJV, "He sitteth in the lurking places of the villages: in the secret places doth he murder the innocent: his eyes are privily set against the poor." Thank you for your loving concern. This is wonderful. I wish they'd run that ad. I'm adding your link and embedding the video in a post on my blog. I'm in for as long as it takes. I'm going to try and find the persuasive speech I wrote senior year of high school about partial birth abortions. If I find it, I'll post it on my blog. Sickening. I don't know how people can murder innocent babies.

I have been an OB nurse for almost ten years. My heart has always been broken for those unborn babies who are aborted but even more so after hearing so many fetal heart beats at some very early weeks of gestation. My heart also breaks for the many moms and dads who are victems to abortion. I am committed to 1 year of prayer to change Obama's heart. God Bless!

Lauren said...

I stumbled across this blog and while I feel exactly the way you do in regards to abortion, I feel there is an even bigger population to pray for rather than to change a politician's mind: pray for those women who are making this choice. Whether or not abortion is "legal" will not halt the number of abortions occuring in our country; it will continue to take place in underground clinics or foreign territories. Drugs are illegal, and yet SO many are still dealing and doing drugs- dying and shooting and fighting over it still today. Underage drinking is ILLEGAL, yet millions of High School and college students partake in hazing and social drinking situation regularly- causing drunk driving accidents and early deaths by the thousand. People, as always, will continue to do what they want to do, disregarding the laws placed before them. Please, everyone who pledges to pray- please pray for women to make the RIGHT and moral decision in this matter...and to choose life.

I have been praying and will keep praying for as long as is needed. I posted a letter that was written and sent to the editor of the Wall Street Journal. I wish everyone could read it--it so elegantly expressed the feelings of my heart. If you would like to read it, the link is:

http://happeedaze.blogspot.com/2009/01/i-wish-i-had-written-this-letter.html

I do feel that great things can be brought about by prayer, especially if many of us are united in that prayer.

As one who first hand knows the horror, guilt and shame of abortion and the healing and forgiveness that SOLELY comes in Christ; I already pray often and at time daily for others as my heart is tremendously burdened in this area. I will join with you in Mondays. I will add it to my normal a.m. prayer time somewhere between 7am and 8am.

God bless you.

Thanks for your words of Truth Melinda!
Committing to pray for at least the year! I am praying also for the CHURCH.....that Churches begin being the safest place for women who know first hand the painful regret of a past abortion and presently find the church the most frightening place to admit this truth. I am committed to offering the Word of God as healing for these women. (I am a leader of the Surrendering the Secret Bible study). As more and more of us step outside that stronghold of shame...the power of secrecy is being diminished and the POWER of God's love and Truth is being released! I am praying for the changed heart of our President and the freed and healed heart of the woman with abortion in her past.
I am one freed and healed! :-)

I will commit to pray for 6 months for God to work to change the minds of all the government leaders, not just President B. H. Obama, who believe that any type of murder is justified, even though it is renamed something else , like abortion. Please know that the president did not write the bills or made the court decisions to kill all these millions of babies, but the member of Congress and the judges of the various courts. My hope and prayer is that each member of Congress, all the judges and all the President's staff, including the President himself, would get saved and live by the Word of God.

Thank you and thank you. I counseled teens girls and young woman facing crisis pregnancies for two years when my family was stationed at Langley AFB. I remember a young girl coming in for a pregnancy test. She was not pregnant, but she did open up about the abortion her dad convinced her to get less than a year before. It broke my heart listening to her as she opened her heart before me, a choice I'm sure that was not easy. I cried with her, held her, loved her. I commit to prayer the remainder of 2009 every Monday.

Charlotte said...

This issue has been a burden on my heart also. My son is a "survivor" of the 70's, when I found myself a pregnant teen with the new "right" to choose and the newly formed Planned Parenthood telling me he wasn't really a baby yet. Praise God He intervened and I chose life! This is a battle we can win on our knees...for the battle is the Lords!

Charlotte said...

Forgot to add my time commitment. I will pray until God changes hearts and abortion is outlawed...how ever long that may be.

I have a heart to help those that have had a abortion. I never want to see anyone go through it. It hurts not only the mother but those that we live with (families)
I am starting to volunteer at our local CPC.
I will be committing to pray one day a week for the next 3mo.
Blessings,
Rachel
